Development of the new generation of the brand’s compact crossover is in the final stage and the all-new 2019 Acura RDX should come this year. The famous luxury brand from Honda has been always known for its amazing cars. At the time it arrived, RDX was one of the most attractive crossovers on the market. If we can judge on a prototype version, the third generation will continue in the same way. Although it will come with similar base characteristics, we will see a whole bunch of novelties and improvements.
Compared to the outgoing second-generation model, there are many new things. Just like it usual for redesigns, there is a new platform, new looks, and various new technologies. Also, the 2019 RDX is about to get a new turbo inline-four engine along with the new transmission. The new model is in the final stage of development and should come soon.
2019 Acura RDX redesign
The 2019 Acura RDX will come completely redesigned. This will be the third generation of the compact crossover, which was originally launched in 2005. The second generation was in production between 2013 and 2018. For this occasion, the company has prepared various novelties. First of all, there is a new platform. Just like it was the case with previous generations, this model is also related to Honda CR-V. So, it rides on the same architecture as the Honda’s famous crossover which was introduced less than two years ago. The new architecture brings many benefits. Besides expected weight savings, there are also some changes in dimensions. The new model is wider and features longer wheelbase. This provides more space inside, which is always welcome in compact cars. There are various other mechanical improvements on the new model. However, the first thing that you will notice is a new, more attractive look.
2019 Acura RDX styling
Every redesign brings a completely new styling and that is the first thing that we can see on a new model. The 2019 Acura RDX is not an exception. It comes with a fresh look, which is pretty amazing. To be honest, it looks many times better compared to the outgoing model. This will be the Acura’s first crossover to receive brand’s latest design language. This means plenty of new details. Of course, most of them are at the front. There is a new pentagonal grille, as well as new headlights. We have already seen these new features on some sedans from Acura. Despite the new shape, the 2019 Acura RDX also continues with those recognizable Jewel Eye LED headlights. Of course, this redesign includes changes inside as well. Although we still don’t know exact details, we are pretty sure that there are many novelties to come.
2019 Acura RDX engine
The engine is one of the most anticipated features for the 2019 Acura RDX. The outgoing model uses an unusually large engine for its size and that is going to change. Instead of a large, though still excellent, 3.5-liter V6, the new crossover will come with a significantly more efficient inline-four turbocharged unit.
There is a new 2.0-liter engine, which comes with a new 10-speed automatic transmission too. So far, this powertrain can be found under the hood of the Honda’s most iconic models. In Accord, this engine delivers around 252 horsepower. On the others side, a version that powers a hi-performance Civic Type R is good for almost 310 horsepower. Although there are still no specs for the 2019 Acura RDX, we are pretty sure that the output will go somewhere in the middle. So, expect somewhere around 270/280 horsepower and a similar number of pound-feet of torque.
2019 Acura RDX release date and price
The 2019 Acura RDX should hit the market in upcoming months. We don’t expect some significant changes in price compared to the outgoing model, which goes in a range between 37.000 and 46.000 dollars, roughly.
