The heart and soul of this great motorcycle is its engine. Of course, we are talking about the company’s well-known 249 cc single-cylinder unit, which comes with liquid cooling and so many advanced technical solutions.
One of the first things that come to mind is Honda’s signature double-overhead-cam design, which provides more torque and allows this engine to rev higher. Speaking of high revving, one of the main reasons is a design that includes a 79 mm bore and short 50.9 mm stroke.
Another thing we like about Honda engineering is that it makes things more compact and more practical. For example, a special oil scavenge pump is hidden deep in the engine, while the lubrication is shared between the engine and gearbox. Such a design makes the engine more compact, which is vastly important in terms of placing the right-side cam drive and the clutch close to each other.
The engine comes with a 5-speed transmission, which comes with a nine-plate clutch assembly. This means that the clutch is more durable and that it also ensures less slip at peak horsepower, better torque transmission etc.
The performance of this single-cylinder four-stroke engine is enhanced in so many ways. Of course, fuel injection is one of the important things and in this case, the fuel injector is at 60 degrees and it sprays fuel all the way to the throttle butterfly. Along with well-engineered fuel injection, there is also a larger capacity air filter, along with a bigger airbox and air-cleaner, which ensure that this engine can always count on plenty of fresh air.
Also, there is a new, larger capacity radiator, which ensures better cooling and keeps the engine safe during the toughest off-road challenges.
Chassis and Suspension
Of course, chassis is one of the most important aspects of this bike and the first thing that comes to mind is a revised frame, with narrower main spars. Also, you may count on a twin-spar aluminum frame, which is pretty much the same as in the famous CRF450R model. Both the engine and the battery are mounted pretty low, which ensures a low center of gravity, for even better handling than before.
When it comes to the suspension setup, you may count on a 49 mm Showa® fork, with a 39 mm piston diameter and 25 mm rod diameter. Such a setup ensures excellent control and also provides a pretty impressive 12.3 inches of travel. The rear suspension is as impressive. You get a Pro-Link® system with a fully adjustable Showa single shock, which offers five millimeters more suspension stroke, along with a lightweight spring. It also features 12.3 inches of travel.
When it comes to brakes, the CRF250RX comes with a single 260 mm hydraulic disc at the front and a single 240 mm hydraulic disc at the rear end. Both wheels come with super capable Dunlop Geomax AT81 tires.
