Honda’s luxurious compact SUV has a lot of great things to offer. It is spacious and comes with one of the nicest interiors in the class, even compared with the most expensive models in this segment. Also, it offers an incredibly smooth ride, thanks to a refined turbo-four engine and well-working 10-speed automatic transmission. As the current generation has been around for two years, we can say that the styling looks pretty fresh as well. All this clearly indicates that the 2021 Acura RDX won’t feature any bigger changes for the next year. Given Honda’s usual length of production cycles, it is still for a mid-cycle refresh.
That means you may count on same design characteristics as for the current model. Of course, there is always room for additions in terms of standard equipment, though we can say that the current model already stands pretty good in this aspect. On the other side, we would definitely like to see more engine options in the offer, and that’s where the Japanese manufacturer could surprise us for the next year.
2021 Acura RDX Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the current model is still quite fresh. It has been around for two years, which is too early for bigger updates. Therefore, we have no doubt that the 2021 Acura RDX will continue with the same layout, which has a lot of things in common with several Honda models but also brings everything to a much refined level. When it comes to the styling, you may count on Acura’s newest design language, characterized be pretty sharp lines in all areas of the vehicle.
For the next year, some reports suggest we might see a version called 2021 Acura RDX Type S. As you may presume, that would be a performance version of the SUV. Besides the more powerful engine, this version would also come with other kinds of upgrades, includes new styling details and various chassis and suspension upgrades. However, the exact details are still unavailable.
Changes on the inside aren’t expected either. The current model features one of the nicest cabins in the class. So, we probably won’t see any particular change during the entire production cycle of this generation. First of all, the dashboard looks very attractive and features impressive materials, something we haven’t used to see from Acura. Surfaces with hard plastics are very rare but even they look very, very nice.
Another thing we really like about this interior is the amount of space. This is one of the most spacious compact luxury crossover, which is generous in both rows when it comes to legroom and overall passenger space. The cargo area is pretty spacious too, as you may count on about 29.5 cubic feet behind the second row and nearly 59 cubic feet with rear seats folded down.
Small yearly updates are mostly about additions to the list of standard equipment, so the 2021 Acura RDX shouldn’t be any different. A couple of additions to the list of standard features seems likely, though we don’t expect to see anything significant. The current model already comes well-equipped. For example, all models come standard with goodies like a 10.2-inch True Touchpad interface, as well as with things like Apple CarPlay, Siri Eyes Free, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, a nine-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, two USB ports. Additionally, you can get things like navigation, 12- and 16-speaker ELS audio systems, two additional USB ports etc.
When it comes to safety, the list of standard features is already impressive and includes things like forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. Additionally, you can get advanced systems like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, head-up display etc.
2021 Acura RDX Engine
The current model comes with just one engine option in the offer. It is an excellent 2.0-liter turbo-four unit, the same one that powers Honda Accord. A max output goes up to 272 horsepower and it is sent through a nice-working 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine is also pretty efficient and you may count on above-average fuel economy. In numbers, that would be around 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Some reports suggest a new, performance version for the next year, which would come as 2021 Acura RDX Type S. Details are still unavailable, but we presume there are two possibilities when it comes to powertrain. Of course, one of them would be a 3.5-liter V6, while a more powerful version of turbo-four, found in Civic Type R, also seems like a good pick. However, the company is still quiet on this model.
2021 Acura RDX Release Date and Price
We presume that the 2021 Acura RDX will hit the market sometime in the third quarter of the year. Base models should go around 38.000 dollars.
