Honda is offering a sporty truck in the compact segment, Ridgeline. However, the US buyers are expecting for a couple of seasons its new version. Better, stronger, and more aggressive. The 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R should be finally out since photographers took first spy shots of the upcoming pickup. The model is based on the regular truck, but with many upgrades. According to renders, there will be a lot of changes before the Type R of this model hits the market in 2020.
For a long time fans were waiting for the Honda Civic to present the Type R. Now, some of them are looking which is the next vehicle to get such version. Since there are rumors about 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R whispering for a while, we believe this is more probable to happen than ever. However, in 2019 we will have more details and official updates.
What could power the 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R?
The base model of the truck is producing 280 hp from its V6 3.5-liter displacement. However, this is not enough for 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R. The tuning of the existing engine is the most certain outcome. Engineers could add turbochargers and direct-injection system. With such setup, the truck will be able to deliver over 450 hp. That is now the serious machine, with the capability to produce 420 pound-feet of torque as well.
A similar setup is available for Ford F-150 Raptor. A 3.5-liter V-6 engine in the legendary truck can produce 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Nevertheless, the 2020 Ridgeline Type R would be much lighter. Also, Honda’s engineers managed to boost the Civic Type R to produce over 300 horsepower. The base car is offering 160 hp from a plain 2.0-liter four-cylinder drivetrain.
What would 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R look like?
Awesome! Every render image that appeared is showing exactly what everyone expects from Type R vehicle. A lot of aggressive details will make this truck very attractive. We can compare it again to Civic hatchback and its performance-tuned model. Air vents and intakes will be more functional to provide better cooling. Three-section grille and distinctive Type R badge are highlights up front. It is more interesting how will Honda make the bed sportier but still keep its functionality. Many red details will be all around the truck, including brakes. Special tires will wrap 20-inch alloy wheels.
The base Ridgeline is very functional. With many upgrades that a new version expects, we believe the truck will be much more appealing. First of all, there will be sporty seats for sure. Also, Type R vehicles are coming with red stitches and eye-catching badges. The flat-bottom steering wheel is a safe bet. Since this is a performance pickup, the dashboard should follow these characteristics. Digital cluster with transparent gauges would do the job.
2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R Price
The question is – how much these updates are going to cost? We already mentioned Ford F-150 and its Raptor version. The difference is around $20,000 with the performance-oriented version exceeding $50k. On the other hand, the starting price of the Honda Ridgeline is lower. It is a compact truck, though. Also, it is not getting the special off-road equipment.
But then, the Honda Civic Type R costs $6,000 more than the most expensive regular trim level. For the truck, that would be Black Edition with a price tag just above $43,000. Having that in mind, the 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R could be just under $50,000.
We will know more during next year when the 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R is going to appear. A big car show will host the premiere, but we still don’t know which one. Honda will probably show its new vehicle early, with the release date happening after a few months.
