If we can judge on the latest reports, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is willing to take another try with this boxy, super-practical design philosophy. Some rumors even suggest its pretty quick arrival, already in the next year as 2020 Honda Element.
At the time when the original model was released, this crossover mesmerized thousands of car lovers. Due to its nice combination of practicality and unconventional design, initial years were very successful. However, sales started to decline soon and that was the reason for discontinuation. The initial 2003-year model had better sales numbers than the last three year models combined. The production finally ended in 2011.
Seven years later, rumors about its revival are numerous and they don’t seem unlike at all if we consider current expansion of crossovers on the market. Latest reports suggest the new 2020 Element could be ready already for the next year.
2020 Honda Element Redesign
Considering the period of break, we would rather say design than a redesign. Anyway, the new model is about to bring a lot of novelties, but it will also keep a lot of design solutions from the original. So, we should expect to see the same boxy shape.
The original model was pretty much all about practicality and we have no doubt that the new 2020 Honda Element will stick to this recipe. This would mean two rows of seating. Of course, the rear bench should be able to fold flat, which is significant for easy loads and unloads. Moreover, we expect to see the same outward rear-door design. This allows much better access from the side, which is crucial for the practicality. Though many see them as so-called “suicide doors” they actually can’t open if front doors are not opened.
2020 Honda Element Platform
Despite a pretty unusual design approach, there is nothing unconventional in terms of mechanics. The original model was based on the legendary compact car Civic and the new generation should continue in the same way. The Civic has been redesigned recently, so the 2020 Honda Element is about to get a very modern platform. One of the biggest benefits is a massive use of lightweight materials, which provides fuel savings and better performances. You can also count on much better driving dynamics, which are about to make this crossover much more than an interestingly-looking practical mule.
2020 Honda Element Styling
This is probably the biggest mystery about 2020 Honda Element at the moment. There is no doubt that the new model will come with a boxy shape, which provides not only generous cargo volume but also easy accommodation of large objects. Still, we are not sure how the final touch of the sheet metal and plastic surfaces will look like.
The original model was pretty unique. Still, it had some things in common with the rest of the Honda’s lineup. For example, from layout had some similarities to the original Ridgeline. The new model could be even closer to the rest of the lineup. The front end could be very close to the company’s current design language. On the other side, its boxy shape will dominate and it will ensure instant recognition among pretty much all crossovers on the market.
2020 Honda Element Interior
We’ve already mentioned for a few times that the new 2020 Honda Element will be mostly about practicality. Sill, comfort, and convenience will be on a high level as well. Expect to see several design elements borrowed from the CR-V, considering that these two models will have most things in common. The dashboard layout should be quite similar, especially when it comes to the instrument cluster. We expect to see a pretty generous offer of standard features. This includes safety features as well. A rearview camera should be standard even in base models. On the other side, higher trims should receive various other things, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and much more.
2020 Honda Element Engines
We expect to see the new 2020 Honda Element with several engines in the offer. Base models should feature a familiar 2.4-liter engine, which is good for about 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. Expect turbo inline-fours in the offer as well.
There is a 1.5-liter unit which has a max output of 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. It seems like a very similar amount of power, but fuel economy and overall efficiency is superior compared to the base engine. Also, there is a chance to see a hybrid version of the offer as well.
It could easily be the same system that powers the Honda Accord, which has 212 horsepower and superior fuel economy, which goes all away up to 50 miles per gallon. All engines should use a CVT transmission.
2020 Honda Element Release Date and Price
It is still hard to say something more precise about 2020 Honda Element release date. Some reports suggest next year, though that should be taken with a dose of a reserve. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 25.000 dollars.
