Honda tried everything to keep its Crosstour model, but the sales didn’t raise. Tow concepts in just two years and various additions couldn’t help. The highlight of this nameplate was its safety since it earned a five-star rating from NHTSA. Well, rumors are saying the crossover is returning for another run. The 2020 Honda Crosstour would take place between regular and premium segments. That means we could see downgraded Acura RDX or Honda CR-V with more options.
There are not too many fans of the Crosstour. But, enthusiasts can still believe rumors will come true. Honda is not denying these plans. Another reason to be optimistic is the growth of the crossover segment. Now, there are more of these vehicles with characteristics of models of other classes. Also, companies are competing to deliver units with different size and amount of features inside.
2020 Honda Crosstour Engine
Four-cylinder and two V6 engines were choices of 2020 Honda Crosstour predecessors. A 3.5-liter V6 would be too big for the position it should take. So, smaller displacement will be the main choice of the new Crosstour. A V6 is a good alternative. But, if we take a look at other classes and companies, it is likely for Honda Crosstour to stay put with four-pot.
The output of the new crossover will be similar to Honda CR-V. that means 2020 Honda Crosstour is going to deliver 185 hp. Well, CR-V carried over the engine its predecessors used to drive. It is a 2.4-liter inline-four unit. However, the Crosstour is not getting a turbocharged and smaller engine.
During its first stint, the Crosstour appeared in China with the special tuning of the 3.5-liter V6 engine. Now, the same market could get a hybrid drivetrain. Honda is developing few more vehicles with such power source. Whatsoever, we still don’t know what kind of system it could be. Which petrol engine it could use? We expect the new Honda Pilot to appear with a hybrid engine, and a similar setup could be used for 2020 Honda Crosstour.
This would drastically improve the fuel economy of the crossover. Also, the Japanese company would add few more horses to total output. In the end, a development of a hybrid system will cause the price rise.
In some markets, Honda is delivering its vehicles with diesel engines. Well, European regulations are not so strict as in the US, so there is a possibility to see such engine overseas.
2020 Honda Crosstour Redesign
One thing is sure – the 2020 Honda Crosstour is not going to carry over a lot of things from its predecessor. The new life needs radical changes. It will be probably downsized. On the other hand, a smaller vehicle will offer more options. Slotted between premium Acura and regular Honda CR-V, the Crosstour will pick best options from both siblings. However, we will see similarities with Acura MDX and Pilot.
2020 Honda Crosstour Release Date
The 2020 Honda Crosstour could be left from the US lineup. Rumors are loud, but we don’t have an official confirmation about it. However, its diesel engine is not going to participate in this market for sure. Honda has numerous rumors to make official and plans to realize in 2019 and 2020, and it seems like Crosstour is one of them.
Again, we stick to the info the 2020 Honda Crosstour will be a model between CR-V and Acura RDX. That means the starting price will be between these two crossovers. Honda CR-V costs $24,000. Its premium sibling is significantly more expensive with $38,000 price tag. The Crosstour could stay below $30k.
