2020 Honda CRF450R Updates

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2020 Honda CRF450R comes with notable updates.  The most important novelty is definitely the addition of the amazing Honda Selectable Torque control, which controls the amount of torque sent to the rear wheel, in order to provide the best possible traction. The system includes a handlebar-mounted switch that allows you to choose different modes.

Most of the updates have been made in order to provide even better performances and with bikes like this one, it’s all about the handling. Therefore, the 2020 Honda CRF450R comes with big internal suspension updates, while there is also a new rear brake pad, more durable and with better performances. Finally, the battery has been moved a little bit lower, so you may count on a lower center of gravity as well.

2020 Honda CRF450R Powertrain and Performances

Of course, the engine plays an important part in this bike as well and you may count on a well-known and proven design. The 2020 Honda CRF450R comes with a familiar 449cc single-cylinder engine with Unicam cylinder head. It is designed in such a manner that it features a pretty high compression ratio. Also, the engine is designed in such a manner that that camshaft sits lower. This also ensures a lower center of gravity.

With such bikes, it’s all about getting as much as possible power, while keeping things lightweight. Therefore, you will find some quite interesting design solutions in this engine. For example, there is a double-spray injector setting, which replaces the second injector and saves a lot of pounds. Such design ensures better fuel atomization, so there is plenty of power and torque, in the mid-range and overrev. Speaking about keeping things lights, this engine also features titanium intake valves.

Chassis and Suspension Design

As we already mentioned, it’s all about handling with these bikes. Therefore, you can find a lot of amazing design solutions on this bike, especially when it comes to chassis and suspension. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is the aluminum frame. It isn’t just lightweight, but also features a low center of gravity and it is positioned in such a way to improve traction and steering precision. Also, we already mentioned that suspension gets some nice updates. In general, this bike comes with an inverted Showa fork with rebound and compression damping adjustability. This results in 12 inches of travel. At the rear end, you can find a Pro-Link Showa single shock with adjustable spring preload, rebound and compression damping adjustability, which offers 12.3 inches of travel.

A twin-muffler is a perfect example of detailed engineering. It is positioned pretty low and pretty close to the chassis. That means it sits as close as possible to the bike’s center of gravity. Of course, that has a highly positive effect on handling but also ensures better airflow.

The 2020 Honda CRF450R weighs only 247 pounds.
