2020 Honda Clarity Review, Electric, Plug in, Changes

Although unusual styling is the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions this car, the 2020 Honda Clarity is actually much more than that. Such styling perfectly matches the model’s character, which is all about alternate fuels. Therefore, it comes in three variants, plug-in hybrid, an all-electric model and fuel cell-powered vehicle. In all three cases the things that come to mind are excellent fuel economy and environment-friendly character. Still, that’s not the only great thing about this model. We are talking about one quite large vehicle, which offers plenty of space and a pretty smooth ride.

2020 Honda Clarity Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, this is a typical mid-size sedan. With more than 108 inches between the axles, this model features pretty common dimensions for the class. On the other side, it is characterized by a pretty uncommon styling. You may find some cues of Honda’s typical design language in this model, but the fact is that many design solutions come in such a way to accentuate the model’s alternate fuel character.

The interior is also designed in a similar manner. The cabin generally looks very nice. All materials feature high quality, while the dashboard comes with several futuristic elements. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice that all controls are digitalized and that there are no physical buttons. This may look fancy but actually takes a learning curve.

On the other side, the list of standard features is pretty generous. All models come standard with an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Pandora, satellite radio, HD Radio, an eight-speaker stereo, two USB ports, and Bluetooth. Additionally, you can get navigation. When it comes to the touchscreen and infotainment system, graphics are great, but the system could be faster.

Safety Features

When it comes to safety, all 2020 Honda Clarity models come standard with things like road departure mitigation system, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and automatic high beams. That’s a pretty long list of safety systems, which can be expanded with parking sensors.

2020 Honda Clarity Powertrain Options

As we already mentioned, the 2020 Honda Clarity comes in three variants – a plug-in hybrid, electric and fuel cell.

Of course, plug-in hybrid is the most common version and it comes with a setup that combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors. The result is more than 200 horsepower, which is more than enough for a convenient ride. Add to this pretty respectable 42 mpg in a combined ride and the reason why this model seems like a good choice is obvious.

The all-electric version uses a battery pack combined with a single electric motor, which is paired with a single-speed automatic transmission. The total output goes around 160 horsepower. Still, the ride quality is pretty good.

Finally, there is a fuel cell model. In this version, the 2020 Honda Clarity is good for about 175 horsepower. Still, fuel cell setup is far more important in this whole story. This is the future of the automotive industry, especially if we consider that the max range goes over 360 miles. Unfortunately, this version is available only in California.

2020 Honda Clarity Pricing

When it comes to the price, it seems obvious that the plug-in hybrid version is the most affordable model you can get. This one goes around 33.500 dollars. On the other side, the electric model would cost you slightly over 36.000 dollars. Finally, there is the fuel cell model, which can only be leased in certain dealerships in California.
