Despite that crossovers are dominating the market, those who prefer driving experience over safety would pick a hatchback anytime, especially if we’re talking about the so-called hot-hatch segment. And there, the 2020 Honda Civic Type R will run the show. Although there are some pretty serious competitors like VW Golf R or Ford Focus RS, the Civic has an obvious advantage, as it is the only model in the class that managed to find a great balance between performances and everyday practicality.
For the next year, we are about to see some nice additions. The 2020 Type R is about to come with some nice styling changes, though we won’t exclude a possibility of some mechanical tweaks either.
2020 Honda Civic Type R Redesign
If we talk about base design characteristics, there’s no doubt that the 2020 Honda Civic Type R will carry on in the same way. On the other side, the whole lineup of Civic models is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh, so we may expect the same from this hi-performance version. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the visual update. We are about to see some interesting tweaks to the front face, in terms of new LED headlights, revised bumper and more. Tweaks are also expected on the rear bumper. Finally, count on new sets of wheels.
On the other side, the chassis setup and suspension probably won’t receive bigger modifications. Honda has brought this aspect of the car almost to perfection and the current model is already the most driveable car in the segment. Unlike the Focus RS, it is comfortable for daily drive. On the other side, Golf R may seem comfortable but when it comes to corners, the Type R wins by a pretty large margin.
When it comes to interior design, we don’t expect any particular changes, though some additions in terms of standard equipment are possible. On the other side, the dashboard layout has been updated recently. The company introduced some new solutions that made controls easier to use. For example, there is now a physical volume knob, while climate controls have been revised as well.
On the other side, we doubt that the new 2020 Honda Civic Type R will feature any change in the rest of the cabin. The current model already features some of the nicest sports seats in the automotive industry, while the amount of space and overall comfort are on a high level as well.
2020 Honda Civic Type R Engine
Which aspect probably won’t bring changes. Honda sticks to a proven formula. A turbo-four with a manual transmission is everything you need for the perfect driving experience. Therefore, we have no doubt that the 2020 Honda Civic Type R will carry on with the same specs, which means a 2.0-liter turbo-four with around 305 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The Civic needs around 4.9 seconds to reach 60. You can find notably faster models in the class, but what makes this model special is its superior handling, so we doubt you will find a hot hatch that can beat this one on the track and, more importantly, which can deliver more fun on curvy roads. The only thing we don’t like on the current model is the exhaust system, which should be louder. We hope this will happen with the 2020 Type R.
2020 Honda Civic Type R Release Date and Price
We expect to see the new 2020 Honda Civic Type R in a couple of weeks. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect bigger changes compared to the current model, which goes slightly over 37.000 dollars.
